Scott Brody

Owner & Director

Scott has been the Owner & Director of Camps Kenwood & Evergreen since 1996. As a camper, Scott discovered his strengths at K&E, making lasting friendships that continue to this day, learning how to be a good teammate, friend and leader. He returned to K&E as a Bunk Counselor and in the summers that followed served as a Unit Leader, Head Counselor & Assistant Director. As a 21 year old, he shared his aspiration to one day direct Kenwood & Evergreen with his mentors Arthur & Judy Sharenow, and together, they were able to make that dream come true. Scott is also the Founder of Everwood Day Camp and operator of Camp Sewataro, both in MA.

Scott also wears many other hats in the camping world! He recently completed a three year term as the National Board Chair of the American Camp Association; an educator and thought leader in the areas of 21st century learning, workforce development and child development, and a tireless advocate for summer camps on a national and global level. He continues to represent the camp profession in Washington, DC, advocating for camps in the halls of Congress and in the White House. He served as an Executive Board member of the Partnership for 21st Century Learning in Washington, DC, and is a current Executive Board Member of the Foundation for Jewish Camp in NY as well as other state and local boards. He is the author of an award-winning article for Camping Magazine entitled “Teaching the Skills that Children Need to Succeed”. Scott is an honors graduate of UC Berkeley and received a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School in 1990..

Catherine Hegarty

Director of Business Operations

Catherine graduated from Bridgewater State University with a Bachelors of Science in Social Work. She came to work for Camp in 1997 as an Administrative Assistant and her role quickly evolved into the Camp Office Manager and later becoming the Director of Business Operations and Finance. She also spent many of her early years assisting with recruiting camp staff from many countries. Her two children grew up at camp as campers and later became counselors.

Catherine’s love for camp is proven by her commitment of 24 years ensuring that the business side of camp is running smoothly. Her dog, Noodle, is one of many camp mascots. When Catherine is not at camp, you will find her helping out with the business side of things at Everwood Day Camp in Sharon, MA.

 

Josh Williams

Assistant Director

Josh joined the Kenwood and Evergreen family in 2012 as a General Counselor. He graduated from the University of Central Lancashire in 2014 with a bachelors in Sports Coaching, before flying across the Atlantic to become a full time member of the Kenwood & Evergreen Leadership Team. While at college Josh worked for the UK Government delivering sporting instruction in partnership with the London 2012 Olympic Games, increasing the accessibility of sports for young people in the community. He represented his county (state) at both rugby and cricket.

As Kenwood & Evergreen’s Assistant Director, Josh plays a pivotal role in all facets of year round camp operations. He is primarily responsible for the staff hiring, programming and staff culture. However, he is also a key member of our internal marketing, events, operations, finance teams. Josh lives in Boston throughout the year and heads north for the Summer. He loves music festivals, sports, traveling and helping our staff extract as much from the camp experience as he did!

 

Jacki Mitchell

Associate Director of Evergreen

Jacki joined our camp family at age 5 and and has remained with us for more than 40 years. After a long career as a camper, she became a beloved counselor, unit leader, and Athletic Director for more than 25 years. This summer Jacki is moving into a new role as the Associate Director of Evergreen. Jacki played field hockey, volleyball, basketball and lacrosse in high school, and then went on to play division 1 lacrosse at Loyola, Maryland — for the #3 ranked team in the nation. After earning her B.A. from Loyola she received her J.D. from Hofstra Law school in 1986.

During the off-season Jacki has been a Commissioner of SYAC (Syosset Youth Athletic Council) for over 20 years while coaching girls basketball and softball teams of varying ages (5-16). She enjoys coaching our girls’ soccer, basketball and the Tri-state softball team each summer. A strength of Jacki’s is being able to motivate the girls to believe in themselves and to try their hardest in everything they do, both on and off the field.

 

Ali Brockman

Evergreen Family Engagement Coordinator

In 1987 Ali began the camp search. She looked at many wonderful camps but an instant connection was felt with K&E – and the rest is history. Ali spent 14 amazing summers at camp, as a camper, JC, general counselor and eventually Freshman Unit Leader. Camp and working with children has always been a passion of Ali’s. After her time at Johnson State College in Vermont, where she studied Elementary Education and Art, she spent many years working at Smugglers Notch Ski Resort where she taught 3, 4 and 5 years old’s to ski. When her time in VT came to an end, she moved back to Boston and spent 4 amazing years as the Assistant Director of the Brimmer and May Summer Camp in Chestnut HIll, MA.

Ali has always remained very close with her camp friends and many of her former campers. She loves being involved in the K&E community and is thrilled to be joining us! Ali’s greatest joy is being a mother to her two amazing daughters, Emme and Bess who will also be at camp. Ali can’t wait to get to know our camp families and to help foster the love for Kenwood & Evergreen. Ali’s hobbies include; spending time with her daughters and husband Scott, Skiing, going to the beach, art, and all things camp!

Alice Lambert

Evergreen Head Counselor 

Alice started at Kenwood and Evergreen as the Evergreen basketball specialist in 2018. Before moving into the head counselor position she was the special events coordinator. Throughout the school year she worked as a program leader at the Northwest Outdoor Science School. Every summer she looks forward to creating the same welcoming, fun, and inclusive environment for kids and staff that made me keep coming back to camp year after year!

 

Bob Mitchell

Athletic Director

In the summer of 1990, Jacki introduced Bob to Camp. He immediately fell in love with it, and has been at K&E for almost 30 summers, 19 of which he has served as Kenwood’s Athletic Director, and this summer Bob will be overseeing the athletics for both camps. Bob has a strong background in sports including having played on a men’s national championship softball team.

 

Lynne Kenny

Camper & Counselor Support

Lynne joined Camps Kenwood & Evergreen when she was a Middle School student, before going on to become part of our staff for many years as a counselor, Unit Leader, Drama Specialist, Athletic Director and even as our Evergreen Head Counselor for a while.

We have been trying to lure Lynne back for many years, and are delighted that her schedule now aligns to make this possible. Lynne is a principal at a top-notch independent school and she and her husband ‘Adventure Dave’ are lifelong educators, having worked at premier international schools all over the world.

DJ York

Office Administrator/Kenwood Head Counselor

DJ joined Kenwood and Evergreen in 2005 when he was 8 years old. After 8 summers as a camper, DJ spent his next few summers working at Everwood Day Camp as a group leader, and Camp Kenwood as a general counselor and unit leader. He graduated from George Washington University with his BS in Biology in 2019 and worked in industry for a few years, before returning to Everwood as the Waterfront Director where he fell back in love with camp.

DJ joined the full time K&E team as an administrative assistant in early 2022. In this role he has been assisting Josh and the rest of the team with managing the K&E social media accounts, hiring, designing K&E programming, and working on the monthly camper newsletters. After Summer 2022 he stepped into the role of Office Administrator where he helps organize parent communications, helps with IT, works with Josh in staff hiring, and assists the team with any projects they need help with.

During the summer he is the Kenwood Head Counselor and Waterfront Supervisor, and he is looking forward to creating a fun and safe environment for campers and counselors to enjoy during those hot summer days.

Sue Whalen

Director of Facility Operations

Sue began her journey with Kenwood and Evergreen in 2011 and fell in love with the values driven community and community spirit. Prior to joining the K&E team, Sue found her love for summer camps during her first summer job at age 16. In 1987 after graduating Keene State College with a Bachelor of Science in Education, she has continued to work with young people throughout her entire career.

Sue has been on the board for the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth and the Make A Wish Foundation. She is married to her wife Sue, yes they have the same name, and has a daughter named Meghan. In her spare time Sue enjoys spending and looking after her 3 dogs and multiple chickens, as well as being in the outdoors and collecting baseball cards.

 

Geof Harris

Property Manager

Geof has been working in the summer camp and outdoor education world for the last 20 years in a myriad of roles throughout the United States and abroad. He has a passion for providing quality experiences for campers and staff through programming and facilities. Most recently he
served as the assistant camp director at a large day camp in Southern NH where he focused on year round and summer programs as well as facilities. Geof came to NH in 2010 for one summer, after graduating with a B.S in Outdoor and Community Recreation from the University of Central Oklahoma, and never left. He has a strong background in construction and is excited to continue improving the camp property for current and future campers.

When not at camp Geof can be found hiking with his dog Thursday, working on his cabin in Vermont and exploring the back roads of Wilmot NH on his trail 125. Fun fact, Geof also has seven goats!
