The past few weeks have been spent putting the finishing touches on camp and actively training our staff. Our return rate this summer is exceedingly high, and the kids are very excited to have so many of their favorite counselors returning.

As another exciting and meaningful camp season begins, let us remind ourselves, just how fortunate we are to be able to give our children the gift of camp – a place where lifelong friendships are formed, confidence, soars, and children grow into more independent, resilient, and the best versions of themselves. For many, these weeks at camp become some of the most cherished memories of their childhood. But the truth is not every family has the resources to make camp possible for their children.

Kenwood and Evergreen has provided the gift of camp for generations, first under our prior owners, Arthur and Judy Sharenow’s K&E Scholarship Fund and currently in coordination with our present owner, Scott Brody and the Mickey’s Kids Fund, in honor of the beloved Mickey Dank, and operated by the Dank family and Mickey‘s closest friends.

In 2024 the Dank family passed the baton to a new Mickey’s kids committee who are determined to keep Mickey’s legacy alive and offer the gift of camp to as many children as possible.

We are asking that you all participate in our second annual Mickey’s kids 5K color run on Sunday, June 29th at 2:30pm. Not only did we receive positive feedback of the kids having fun, but they were also very proud to have participated in something that would change the lives of a child by giving a gift so near and dear to their hearts.

Back by popular demand, we will be live streaming the entire event. We have moved it to a weekend so that more of you can view and participate in your child’s efforts.

Imagine the impact you can make – helping a child discover their courage, make their first real best friend, or feel truly seen and accepted for who they are. If camp has been a meaningful experience for either you or your child, please consider paying it forward so another child can know that same joy.

Any donation, regardless of size, would be much appreciated and will be used entirely towards Funding a child’s camp experience from tuition, travel, trips, and even clothing/equipment when necessary.

Thank you in advance for being part of our camp community – and for helping us share its magic, and changing the world, one camper at a time.

Same school of thought

Summer Matters Inspiring confident, kind kids & forever friendships Sometimes I wonder if we’re getting this right. I mean, not really, I know we’re getting it right. But it’s not like there’s a report card for camps, or a panel of camp judges showing up in August to score how we did overall. We put a lot of thought into how summer is structured. What the days look like, what kids leave with, whether all of it adds up. And then a big part of the job is trusting it’s the best way to run…

3 minutes. 3 hours. 3 days.

Summer Matters Inspiring confident, kind kids & forever friendships 3 minutes. 3 hours. 3 days. 3 weeks. 3 months. 3 years. 3 decades. Playing a little fast and loose with timelines, but that seems pretty close to what the independence milestones look like for a kid growing up. A camp friend passed these timelines on to me, and I thought they tracked. Let’s break them down. 3 minutes is the first time you feel comfortable leaving your kid out of your sight (maybe in a crib, or a playpen…

Mo money, mo meetings

Summer Matters Inspiring confident, kind kids & forever friendships I’m going to say three things, all true, and that seem completely disconnected. Most people hate going to meetings (me included). We go to a lot more of them than we think Being good at meetings is good for life (mostly) There’s a new study from Harvard about meetings and money. Researchers tracked how much time people spend in meetings and how that impacted their income. The Guy Defending Meetings The study comes from David…
