Our Brother-Sister Summer Camp’s Winter Weekend Adventure Begins!

camp winter weekend

The best weekend of the entire year has begun! As is tradition at our brother-sister summer camp in NH, the first weekend in January is when we host our annual Senior Camp Winter Weekend Adventure. Campers and counselors from around the world converge on our campus in New Hampshire for a weekend of snow, fun, camp friends, and making incredible memories.

Bright and early this morning I met about 60 campers and counselors at Penn Station in New York City. We boarded a private Amtrak train car and made the journey north, stopping along the way to pick up more of our friends. It felt like we were on the Hogwarts Express, minus the owls. As you can imagine, the ride was incredible. We had music and food and there was dancing and singing camp songs the whole way there. Everyone was so excited to be back together with their best friends and favorite camp counselors.

In Boston we were greeted by another 40 or so super excited friends, and we boarded 2 coach buses that drove straight up to our campus in Wilmot, NH. Upon arrival we dropped our bags in our toasty warm, heated cabins, and sat down together for a fabulous dinner. And then we had a surprise for everyone…

LASER TAG! We are always looking for new and exciting ideas, and even after 16 years of amazing Winter Weekends we are still looking for ways to make this special event even cooler. So we brought in a company to turn our 200+ acre campus into a massive laser tag park. Campers and counselors were divided into teams, suited up, and suddenly there were red and green laser beams shooting across our brother-sister camp in the dark. The sounds of laughter and cheering could be heard all over campus!

Then Scott turned on the stadium lights to our soccer field called the Hollow, and everyone got in a few sledding runs before heading back to the bunks for showers and some sleep.

We cannot wait for all of the fun that tomorrow brings…including yet another surprise activity that should make our camp friends REALLY happy. Parents who are home reading this right now: any guesses on what it is?

For all of us on the Camp leadership team this really is our favorite weekend of the entire year. We feel so fortunate to run this incredible camp community — a place based on the idea of helping children and young adults make such lasting friendships while finding their passions. Spending this time each winter back on our beautiful campus with so many campers and counselors that we love is really a gift. It feels more like a family reunion than a summer camp gathering. Thanks to every parent who made this special event available to their child. More news from the 16th annual Camps Kenwood and Evergreen Winter Weekend tomorrow!
