Our 8th Annual Film Festival at our Summer Camp in New HampshireMarch 12, 2015
It’s almost time! The start of the summer of 2015 is just over 100 days away, and we cannot wait. We have so many exciting plans for this summer, and will be sharing many of them in this blog over the coming weeks.
First up, we are thrilled to announce that there are some important changes in store for the Kenwood and Evergreen film festival. This is the 8th year our summer camp in New Hampshire has hosted this event, and it has always been a fabulous showcase for the creativity and artistry of our campers. This year we are taking it to the next level!
As with other summers, during the first six weeks of the season campers of all ages will be visiting our film department to write, direct, star in, score and edit their own movies. We anticipate this year our young film makers creating content in just about every genre, including comedy, action, romance, documentary, noir, music video, and animation. Our talented film counselors will be on hand to give lessons in composition, dialogue writing, lighting techniques, using a green screen for special effects, editing in imovie, Final Cut, After Effects, and more! Films must be no longer than 3 minutes.
This year, campers will be able to submit their work to our panel of festival judges who will select the winners in each category. Winning films will be shown to the entire Junior Camp community on Friday, August 3rd, and Senior Camp community on Friday, August 10th. Those who create the winning films will also receive K&E’s own special film festival statuette: The Zylbie. This is named after David Zylber, long-time K&E camper, counselor, unit leader, and creator of our fabulous filmmaking program. David’s a wonderful and funny guy, and we’re hoping that he will be on hand to present this year’s awards to our camper auteurs.
Yes, the Zylbie really is a statuette that you will be able to take home with you. We’ve already obtained a mould and Ceramics Andy has begun the process of making these awesome mementos. And yes, just like the real Zyblie it has wild and crazy hair on top (if you haven’t met him yet you’ll see when he’s at Camp this summer).

Our summer camp in New Hampshire has so many talented, creative, driven young artists, and we can’t wait to see what sort of movie magic they produce this summer. In the coming weeks we have many more exciting announcements to make about our camp’s sports, arts, waterfront and adventure programs, so make sure you don’t miss a single blog posting!
