For more than 85 years Kenwood and Evergreen has been the place to make your deepest, most important friendships.
We receive hundreds of photos each year of current and former campers hanging out with the friends that they made at our overnight camp in New Hampshire. Our campers, counselors and alumni write us letters that say “no one knows and cares for me like the guys at Kenwood” or “I didn’t just make friends at Evergreen: I met my future bridesmaids”.
But why are these relationships so powerful? How do these friendships last decade after decade? And how do so many people meet their best friends at Kenwood and Evergreen?
Here are some important reasons:
Life at Kenwood and Evergreen is amazing: making friends is easy when you’re having fun, and we jam pack as much fun as possible into every day at our camp. Whether it’s sliding down our 27-ft tall waterslide, leaping off our massive zip line, or wrestling in 1,000 pounds of Jell-O, summers at Kenwood and Evergreen are pretty much the most fun you can have! Our unique daily schedule also allows campers to focus more on the activities that they love, which means more fun doing the things you love with kids who like the same activities you do!
Our campers make a values-driven decision: children who choose our summer camp want to be a part of a community where being a good friend is the most important thing. They want to know that their bunkmates are just as committed to being kind, quality friends as they are. They also want to know that their counselors will look for every opportunity to create a bunk atmosphere that is welcoming and fun, and that leaves each camper feeling like they are a beloved member of the bunk. That’s what Kenwood and Evergreen is all about!
We accomplish important goals each summer: studies show that the strongest friendships form around shared values and shared goals. Our campers spend 7-weeks each summer working together on traveling sports teams, in theater productions, creating art projects, climbing mountains, jamming in rock bands, and by learning to live together happily in bunks. These shared experiences help our campers form unbreakable bonds with their camp friends. The majority of our bunk counselors grew up at our camp, so they understand how crucial this is for each and every camper.
Being your best self makes a big difference: our intentional community will teach you how to be your best, most confident self. You’ll learn this as you gain new activity skills and while becoming more independent than you ever thought possible. People will notice when you are at your best, and you’ll find yourself making friendships faster than ever before!
Our 95% return rate: our campers tell us that one of their favorite things about K&E is that their camp friends are with them every summer. It’s a tradition at Kenwood and that Evergreen that over 95% of our campers return each summer. It means that you know you’ll be able to live and hang out with your best camp friends year-after-year.
You become a part of something incredible: our camp community is like one big happy family. Our campers become members of the Kenwood Brotherhood or Evergreen Sisterhood, and that means that you develop important bonds outside of your age group. Our older campers will love getting to know you, and our oldest campers will become your Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
