Most camps don’t use the words “social and emotional intelligence,” “critical thinking” or “resiliency” in their descriptions of what your child will gain throughout their stay. At Camps Kenwood and Evergreen, our goal is for our campers to leave more developed in all of these areas, while staying true to the core values of fun, friendship and exploration.
Just as every child has their own unique set of desires and goals, every parent has their own dreams and wishes for the person their child will become. Kenwood and Evergreen’s intentional summer camp program works to help your child learn and develop these core values to reach those goals, all while giving them a memorable summer experience.
At Camp, we work to create a nurturing environment in all of our activities, from ceramics to soccer to swimming. Through our innovative Structured Choice schedule, our campers learn how to challenge themselves to participate in experiences that may be unfamiliar to them. By working with both general and specialty counselors, your child can learn and excel at activities that once seemed unattainable to them. We want them to find comfort in going outside of their comfort zone. Through this process, our campers develop self confidence that can only be learned by trying and succeeding at something previously thought impossible.
Healthy self-esteem encourages a healthy individual who is independent and can start to explore their own new opportunities, relationships, and adventures. By teaching a child how to believe more in themselves and their abilities, they begin to set their own goals and take a personal responsibility in achieving them. This noticeable growth in self-confidence that lasts far beyond the summer is one of Camp’s most amazing results.
Children learn from the peers and role models who surround them. At Camps Kenwood and Evergreen, we facilitate this learning in safe and healthy ways. Peer groups are supervised by supportive adult role models who encourage positive values such as sportsmanship, collaboration, responsibility, and kindness. On the first day, campers work with their two cabin counselors and fellow “bunk-mates” to create a mutually agreed upon list of rules and regulations to encourage positive behavior. By living in a group environment, our campers are taught how to cooperate, be considerate, and co-exist in harmony. Our caring and supportive counselors become people your child will go to for encouragement, guidance, and – most importantly – friendship.
At the end of the day, camp is a place where your child should have fun. This is why Camps Kenwood and Evergreen offer a variety of exciting, creative events and activities to ensure the best summer possible. Our Camps and programs have been intentionally designed to guarantee that healthy growth and development is not sacrificed in the process. With a return rate of over 93% for more than 15 straight years, we know what it takes to create a successful and beneficial program. Summers at Camp will provide your child with skills and friendships for life.
Our goal is for your child to have the most impactful, incredible summer experience of his or her life, plain and simple. With the help of their counselors, our children face the challenges that Camp life brings, and learn important lessons about themselves. It will be a fun summer—have no doubt! But more than that, it will be a summer that really makes a difference in the lives of our campers, and that is what Camp is all about.
Our Leadership Team spends the entire year working and planning so that we can achieve these important goals. We invite you to Learn About Our Leadership Team.
