Each age group will also learn to canoe to a private island with their friends and counselors. After an afternoon on a beautiful beach they will pick wild blueberries before settling in for a delicious dinner cooked over an open fire, followed by s’mores and the telling of classic camp stories. As our campers grow so do the adventures on our overnight trips. Teen campers participate in 3-day explorations up Mt. Washington and white water canoeing on the Androscogin river. During your final summer campers have the opportunity to sea kayak and even white water raft down class 4 rapids!
From 2 feet to 4 wheels, we offer an on-campus cycling program, and for older campers mountain biking trips down Waterville Valley. They get to explore nature in ways they never thought possible, by combining hiking, canoeing, biking and rafting for the ultimate adventure. Every trip is an opportunity for personal development. Even our youngest campers are involved in the planning and decision-making process of these adventures. What will we pack? What should we eat? What trail should we take? Involving campers in these important questions gives them ownership in their adventures, and allows leaders to emerge.
And not all of our adventures take place far from campus! We have over 100 acres of forest for day hikes and salamander hunts, along with an incredible Ropes Course featuring 13 different climbing stations, and a massive zip line. We are also the only camp around with a natural climbing wall made out of pure granite cliffs over 50 feet tall! Campers will join Adventure Dave on hikes, swamp walks, and even trips through local waterfalls.
Every trip, whether it’s overnight in the mountains or during the day on our ropes course, offers our campers a variety of situations to explore, enjoy and evolve. Learning to plan trips, adapt to changing situations and celebrate their awesome accomplishments really highlights the amazing leaders our campers become. A summer at Camps Kenwood and Evergreen is a summer of incredible exploration.
